Taper Rock Drill Bit

Taper drill bits are "taper-fit" rotary-percussive tools designed for shallow-hole (0.3-6 m) rock drilling with hand-held or air-leg rock drills.
A short tapered shank (4°, 5°, 7°, 11° or 12°) is driven into the matching taper of the drill rod; no thread or coupling is needed, giving extremely fast bit changes and low coupling cost.
Impact force is delivered from the top (via jackhammers, stopers or light-duty drill rigs), so they fall under the Top Hammer drill bit category and are typically used for drilling holes with a depth of ≤ 15 meters.
Bit types
  • Button Bit – spherical / ballistic buttons, hard & abrasive rock
  • Cross Bit – 4-blade cruciform, medium rock, faster ROP
  • Chisel Bit – single / double chisel, soft rock, lowest cost

    Competitive Advantages

  • Cost-Effective Operation: Friction-fit design reduces part replacement (no threaded wear), and durable materials lower tool change frequency—cutting overall project costs.
  • High Penetration Rate: Spherical/semi-ballistic carbide buttons minimize rock resistance, boosting drilling speed by 15–20% compared to conventional flat-tooth bits (in medium-hard rock formations).
  • Flexible Compatibility: Works with common top hammer equipment (jackhammers, stopers) and standard taper rods, requiring no specialized tools for deployment.
  • Consistent Performance: Stable friction connection prevents bit slippage during impact, ensuring uniform hole quality and reducing rework rates.

    Typical Application Scenarios

  • Mining: Rock bolting, small tunnel excavation, and shallow ore extraction.
  • Tunneling: Preliminary drilling for tunnel support and blast hole creation.
  • Quarrying: Small-scale stone extraction and surface rock trimming.
  • Construction: Foundation rock drilling and slope stabilization projects.
